2009 Midnight Preserves Presents: ZIGABOO MODELISTE (04.24,04.25)

Joseph “Zigaboo” Modeliste is a Master Drummer, Rhythm-Innovator, Percussionist, and a New Orleans Legend. He is the most highly acclaimed drummer ever to hail from the Crescent City. For three decades Ziggy’s creativity has been a wellspring of Funk Influence for musicians of all kinds. Sampled time again by some of the best-known names in Hip-Hop, his innovative work as a member of the Internationally Acclaimed R & B group, “The Meters,” (not to mention his side work with artists like Keith Richards, Robert Palmer, & Dr. John) has garnered him an unparalleled level or respect among musicians and fans. Ziggy’s style is unique; he is a master of creating Funk Grooves and new concepts of Funk drumming. He is especially known for his syncopated rhythms and his unique second line Funk styles, which have been sampled, imitated, and copied many times over.

And he's performing at Preservation Hall two nights in a row!

Think that's awesome? Check out his special guests:

04.24.09
/ Midnight - Zigaboo & Friends with Special Guest:
Marva Wright

A twenty-year veteran of the New Orleans music scene, Marva Wright is the epitome of the sultry southern blues vocalist. Boasting a big, beautiful voice born of the church and tempered in the neon sheen of the French Quarter’s infamous Bourbon Street strip, Wright’s performances swing from the reverent to the bawdy with a graceful and practiced ease. Equally at home in the regular club dates she plays in her native New Orleans, on the road at conventions and casinos, or onstage in front of thousands of eager festival-goers, there’s no room big enough to contain the full-throated glory of The Blues Queen of New Orleans.

04.25.09 / Midnight - Zigaboo & Friends with Special Guest: Walter "Wolfman" Washington
Walter “Wolfman” Washington has been an icon on the New Orleans music scene for decades. His searing guitar work and soulful vocals have defined the Crescent City’s unique musical hybrid of R&B, funk and the blues since he formed his first band in the 1970s.

Walter “Wolfman” Washington has earned numerous accolades over his long career, but he is not one to sit back on his laurels. He maintains a heavy schedule playing with the Roadmasters as well as with his trio, the Chosen Few. As if that were not enough, he also recently began a successful collaboration with some local jazzmen including the trumpeter James Andrews.
